The spiritual way of purifying the heart

The heart in the emotional and spiritual sense is a vessel for emotions that guide people in their day to day life. However, this same facet can also lead a person to be more removed from their emotions. According to Dr. Ibrahim Jaffe, in the Sufi world, one can be trapped in the way of the Nafs. This means being in the ego of a personality. This, in turn, lets one experience separation, emotional suffering, mental confusion, and a lack of guidance.

Looking at the heart through the deep eye, you would see that the reason why people are cut off is that they have allowed veils to cover their hearts. People may have different types of veils that cover their hearts. There are veils of hatred, veils of fear, or veils of people who have affected them, as well as veils of past experiences. Regardless of the veil, these are what cuts people from experiencing the divine experiences of the heart.

The divine experiences of the heart is that of beauty, transcendence, knowledge, and wisdom. It is a deep sense of knowing and guidance of who you are, where you are going, and what life asks of you. What veils do is limit your perception to the divine, which is why purifying the heart is necessary for people to experience the divine once more.

For this to happen, purification must be done to quell the anger, the hurt, the jealousy, the veils that prevent a person from experiencing the divine. One such way of purifying the heart is by going deeper within oneself to find the memories that have caused the creation of these veils. This process unravels problems from the present time going back to the root causes. Dr. Ibrahim Jaffe believes that pinpointing that singular moment where you shut down your connection to the divine is necessary for you to understand the cause of your veil and to purify it all together.

Can loneliness lead to spiritual growth?

Loneliness is considered a tragedy of the modern world. Thus, it is difficult to imagine that something as unpleasant as loneliness can be a means for one to grow spiritually. In this blog post, Dr. Ibrahim Jaffe shares how loneliness can direct people to the Ultimate Reality.

Many people fall into deep loneliness for reasons such as not getting the love they desire in a relationship, not feeling the connection they seek to have, and being ostracized from their family, tribe, work, or religious movement. This sensation may have the same effect as death to some people, sometimes even feeling as if going through death while still living.

To rise from loneliness, a person must first look inside themselves to see if they are the ones setting things in motion. Maybe the reason a person is unable to receive the love they desire is their own inability to love others. Authentic spiritual growth starts within oneself. Medical spiritual healers encourage individuals to use the Divine Names of God or Allah to heal and grow spiritually. The Names of God will lead a person to purification and ascension.

According to Dr. Ibrahim Jaffe, God has given 99 of His Divine Names to be used as deep medicine for the body, heart, soul, and mind. Loneliness should not be thought of as punishment, rather an opportunity to walk deeper into Divine Love. Having been healed from loneliness drives people to help others experience deep love.

How Sufism can help you through depression

Depression is a silent killer. Even people who smile the brightest could have the worst episodes of depression. This is why it’s important to spot early signs of depression as they develop in oneself and others, according to Dr. Ibrahim Jaffe. Over 17 million Americans experience some sort of depression every year, and it can result in a painful life filled with isolation and suffering. Besides medication for those who are clinically depressed, certain practices in Sufism can help people suffering from depression.

According to Dr. Ibrahim Jaffe, depression comes from loss space. This occurs when people lose a meaningful part of their life where they focused on prior to the loss. You may not realize it, but you are driven by meaning. It’s what gives purpose in life. This brings you to the first step of healing depression. When the core energy that drives your purpose gets frozen or blocked, this is where you experience depression. The first step is to recognize that blockage, and the next step is learning how to unblock it.

Unblocking the energy that gives you meaning is, of course, done on a person-to-person basis. The causes of depression vary from person to person. Once you find the main cause of this blockage, unblocking it takes a great deal of hopefulness. What’s difficult in this two-step process is finding the root of the problem and how you interpret it as an individual. According to Dr. Ibrahim Jaffe, these are often buried deep into the subconscious. And by using God’s light, you can transform your hopelessness into connections to love, life, compassion, and even trust.

This year, Dr. Jaffe has released a series of blogs to share the beauty of healing in the Sufi way and how it can transform us at the deepest level: the soul of who we are.

In this blog, he speaks about how to use Sufi understandings and methodology to help heal depression with what he refers to as the Illuminated Sufi Healing perspective.

From this perspective depression can affect a person at different levels of their being, and needs to be addressed accordingly. If not healed at a deep enough level, it cannot be changed or removed as the person desires, or replaced by what will remove it: hope.

Dr. Jaffe explains that he addresses depression by first assisting the person locate what is causing the depression in the deepest part of their heart. Often, there is an unresolved experience or image they are witnessing that is resulting in feelings of hopelessness or despair.

He helps walk the person through that experience or image, in order to resolve it. This removes the person from the depression and them with hope. Often, the depression itself will go away, as hope is the key to alleviating the feelings around the experience they were holding in their deep heart.

Through the Illuminated Sufi spiritual healing perspective, all wounds are healed by walking within ourselves to the level of the soul, and through the purification of our soul’s qualities at the deepest levels. This, in turn, aligns and embodies our connection with God, from which the highest qualities and transformational gifts are provided for us, always.

Dr. Ibrahim Jaffe is a physician, Sufi Master Healer, and Spiritual Guide who has pioneered Spiritual Healing (SH), where western medicine is combined with spiritual practice to heal disease and improve the health of patients. Dr. Jaffe uses the SH approach to find spiritual, psychological, emotional, and energetic aspects of diseases and come up with ways they can be treated.
